See your Apple Photos on a Map on your Mac

Tuesday, August 17, 2021

Photos and videos in Apple Photos are organized chronologically by default. We mostly use time as an easy and logical way to find our pictures. But sometimes you might remember the location and not the time of year. What if we could look at our photos on a map!?

Perhaps you vacationed in Paris five years ago. You certainly can remember Paris, but not necessarily the month or year. If you took these photos on your iPhone, the location data will also be saved in the image. To sort your photos by location:

1. Open Apple Photos on your Mac.

2. In the left sidebar, click Places.

3. A map will appear displaying the location where your photos were taken. Use the zoom controls to see more specific and embedded locations.

Give the Map a try as it might prove to be a quicker method to locating groups of images from a trip, rather than scrolling to find them chronologically.

NOTE: Only photos taken with Apple devices and specific cameras, with the GPS enabled, will work with this feature.
