See File or Folder Size in Mac’s Finder

Sometimes it’s helpful to know the size of a file or folder on your Mac. There is an easy method for revealing this information. Using the “Get Info” feature of Finder, you can uncover all kinds of information about your folder or files, including the size. Here’s how:

  1. Click the Finder icon on the dock, or click once on your Desktop.
  2. Locate the file or folder for which you want to find the size.
  3. Select the file or folder by clicking on it once.
  4. Go to the File menu. Choose Get Info. ( Command + I on your keyboard. )
  5. A tall rectangular window will appear and reveal a good deal of information. In the upper right corner you will see the size in KB, MB or GB.

With larger files or folders with many filles, it can take some time for your Mac to calculate the size. If you see “- -“ in the upper right corner of the get info window, don’t worry. Your Mac is just calculating the size.
