Troubleshooting a Frozen Mac Application

Wednesday, June 16, 2021

When an application on your Mac stops working or freezes, there may be a way to resolve things without force restarting your Mac OR calling for help. Try these suggestions the next time an app becomes unresponsive:

  • Go to the Apple Menu and choose Force Quit. Select the app from the list, then click Force Quit. NOTE: You may lose unsaved changes.
  • Try restart your Mac by choosing Apple menu > Restart. The frozen app may prevent restart.
  • Check the application’s documentation to see whether it’s compatible with your macOS version.
  • Check for updates to your application.
  • Disconnect any peripheral devices you just connected (i.e. printer, external hard drive, SD card).
  • If you recently updated the app or macOS, a plug-in or enhancement you installed may no longer be compatible.

Give these tips a shot as they can help save you time, money, and headache the next time your are experiencing an issue with your computer. If all else fails, drop us a line.
