New Year’s Resolution: Get Control of Passwords!

Monday, January 11, 2021

In the modern age of web browsing, there are simply far too many passwords even for the greatest minds. No need to beat yourself up for not remembering all of them—no one can! But there is a better way to keep them at quick access.

Often, many folks try continue to labor over the futile exercise of recalling passwords by trying to use a consistent formula, such as one's pet’s name or birthday.  Worse yet, many people will use (or attempt to use) the same password across multiple websites. A single password is a security threat as if even one of those accounts is compromised in a data breach, hackers can use it to gain access all the other accounts with the identical login credentials. Not good!

If this sounds like you, don’t sweat. There’s no shame in losing track of all of the accounts you have out there, but it’s time to get them under control! This year, make it your resolution to adopt a password manager.

A password manager is a secure, digital replacement for the little notepad that you might have all of your passwords scribbled down in now, but it’s also more than that. Password managers store your passwords all in one accessible, secure place. In many cases they also store your credit card numbers, addresses, bank accounts, and other sensitive information, protecting them with a single strong master password

Mac Doctor’s preferred password manager is 1Password, which works and syncs across all platforms and devices. We feel 1Password is the most secure, most versitile, and most reliable.

The point is this: Using a password manager gives you more security, a better a more reliable place to store your sensitive information and, the best part, the freedom to forget your passwords! The password manager has always got your back, so you can fill your brain with more important things!
